ON MT. KILIMANJARO I STAND

The days of revelation can’t be far

I wished to see Africa, not to picture or imagine
Very glare of green
I escaped Everest, for Africa was my aim
Countless people I saw
And countless wars I witnessed
Through my eyes was a land in jeopardy
Peace was elusive to grasp
Hunger almost inescapable
The land was before without blemish
But now saturated with ill will and prejudice
I saw far, a place of minor peace
Conflict etched into the consciousness of the youth
Forever they remain violent and retaliate
From the mount, I saw people with Rheumy eyes
I saw with tears, Hutu and Tutsi of Rwandan genocide
Dafur and Somalia cracked my heart
And the whole Africa sickened my soul
The dictum of peace always ignored
I thought I could see ever green
But I saw ever greed
On Mt Kilimanjaro was the panorama of Africa
After bleed in my heart
